Good afternoon
0:01
Welcome to a very special experience for our college
0:08
we reaffirm our partnership
0:10
with the University of Southern Indiana we have here today
0:13
Dr. Linda Bennett, the vice president enrollment management
0:16
Andy Wright and you all should know most of you our interim chief academic officer Paul Kasenow and we're excited to have our transfer coordinator Lorie Maltby in the audience
0:25
along with one of the people that signed the very first agreement David Brauer
0:32
lots of folks from our college foundation and people from our board of directors
0:37
were just very grateful to have all of you here today as we do this signing ceremony
0:41
I wanted to just a couple things
0:44
about our partnership with USI and we
0:48
know our students think that USI is their first transfer choice
0:54
More students go to USI
0:55
than any of our partner institutions
0:58
and we know
1:00
its a wonderful facility great faculty and staff lots of programs athletics and they're still close enough
1:08
across the river to do their laundry at home
1:13
We've been really pleased with the partnership that USI has provided us
1:17
weve come to visit with their deans and
1:19
talk with us about programs on campus weve been invited to
1:22
participate in their professional development
1:24
Its been a strong relationship
1:26
Im grateful to Dr. Bennet for that
1:29
we know, and like to brag no disrespect intended
1:33
the students from here
1:36
who leave with Associates of Arts or Associates of Science degree go
1:37
over there campus and do as well or
1:41
better than their third year students. It's says that partnership designed for our students
1:45
and our faculty and staff
1:49
prime those students. Last spring Paul and our board chair Cass Wilson and I had the opportunity
2:00
to meet with Dr. Bennet and several of her folks and her board chair
2:02
and we talked about those great opportunities
2:04
and their work to strengthen that
2:05
and Dr. Bennet will speak to that so please
2:07
2:09
well first of all about say that I i have visited the Henderson community
2:14
college campus many times and I'm always delighted to come
2:18
it's been a strong relationship with President Williams since she first arrived
2:23
and Henderson Kentucky so we've always
2:26
wanted to make certain that this partnership that has been
2:30
in existence for so many years continues because we do know how well your
2:34
students do and
2:35
do you understand and want to support the importance of the Associates Degree
2:40
for our economies and for
2:44
the future development of our communities
2:46
couldnt be a more important thing to reenforce and we
2:49
really want to come behind Henderson community college to tell more students
2:54
that they really should take that
2:57
first milestone to
2:58
an associate's degree so that they
3:00
can begin a career
3:04
and begin in terms of
3:05
what they bring back to the communities what they bring back to their families
3:06
so we know how well and President Williams
3:10
has spoken well to that we know how well your students do
3:13
when they arrive on our campus and many of your students go into some of our most
3:17
selective programs particularly nursing so
3:21
we know that your students are well prepared and we're looking ahead i have in
3:26
terms of how we can
3:27
continue to deepen this partnership there are many ways
3:30
in which I think an institution that has bachelor and
3:34
graduate degrees can partner with community college degrees to increase
3:38
opportunities for students and for faculty
3:41
and staff
3:43
in the coming year we're going to be focusing
3:44
on professional development opportunities for our own faculty and staff
3:49
and we'll certainly pledge to keep
3:52
Henderson Community College faculty and staff in mind as we roll out some of those initiatives
3:55
so thank you for the warm welcome
4:00
and thank you for all the partnership we've had
4:03
it's a very easy give and take so we look forward to continuing
4:08
this important partnership
4:16
We have four copies for top piece of this important document that will help our students
4:20
not only take their degrees directly but transfer classes to be your 459 program
4:26
that your faculty has set up for your degrees
4:30
so lets sit down and sign these up
4:30
We'll sign on the dotted line
4:34
You can even keep the HCC pen
4:41
<<Silence>>
5:39
So, its just the strength of a pen but its the strength of a pen that means a great deal to our students. we hope to partner together on transfer scholarships to help our students move
5:52
while filling out scholarships from our college foundation or through USI's foundation
5:55
we know our students come here often
5:59
not really sure what they want to do
6:01
or really where they want to go
6:02
and having USI folks on our campus
6:05
helps them make those connections
6:07
so it's just a little strength of a pen - an HCC pen -
6:11
But it's still an important day and I in no way want to minimize that so thank you both for coming to campus, to Henderson
6:22
Thank you
6:23
very much and I want to say we're doing a number of things
6:26
looking forward to having your students and one of the things
6:32
we've realized we've always been a very successful transfer institution
6:36
with your folks coming to us
6:37
but we've never really provided that many incentives to transfer in terms of
6:41
scholarship support so we changed that effective this year
6:45
and there are scholarships available
6:47
for transfer students and just check on our web page and you'll
6:51
find information
6:52
about those transfer scholarships. Thank you all very much for coming.
