Placement Testing & Assessment

Henderson Community College and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System requires students to have assessment and placement information before beginning college classes. This may be done by ACT scores, transfer credit, or EdReady. These assessments are used to place students in appropriate classes to increase success in college.

The EdReady assessments are computerized exams used to determine skill level in reading and English as well as mathematics.  These assessments help to determine at what academic level a student should begin post-high school work.

The ACT® test assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work.

Please contact the Start Center at 270 831-9759 for your questions about assessment and placement tests. You may also fax student copies of placement test scores to 270-831-9612, though official ACT scores must be on file in the Admissions office.

How to complete EdReady testing at home:

  • Go to https://hendersontesting.edready.org
  • Select Get Ready
  • Select Sign Up on the following screen.
  • Create an account using your email address/password.  The Zip Code that needs to be used is 42420.
  • After sign up is complete, you will receive an email to activate your account.

Once you have activated your account, contact Laura Ivy to let her know you have created an EdReady account and she can add the English and Math goals to your account to complete testing.

Once the goals have been added, you are ready to test.  This is a diagnostic test that you can only complete once.  You can improve on your initial score by working through the areas that EdReady says need improvement.  As you work on material in those areas and answer questions correctly your score will increase.

The KCTCS Computer Literacy Exam is available for interested, qualified students. KCTCS uses Certiport's IC³ exam to determine your computer literacy, which is one of the requirements necessary for a KCTCS diploma or degree.

The Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³) provides students and job-seekers with the foundation of knowledge they need to succeed in environments that require the use of computers and the Internet. The Global Standard 3 is an internationally recognized standard for digital literacy and reflects the most relevant skills needed in today's academic and business environments.

In an increasingly digital world, where virtually every field and function is impacted by computers, IC certification can help you refine your aptitude in the most important and valuable areas.

The IC³ exam consists of three tests in one package.

  • Living Online covers skills for working in an Internet or networked environment.
  • Key Applications covers popular word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications and the common features of all applications.
  • Computing Fundamentals covers a foundational understanding of computing.

Vouchers for the exam can be purchased at the campus bookstore (Barnes and Nobles). The cost of the vouchers for the full exam (for 3 credits) is $107.80 while the cost for the Fast Track exam (digital literacy certification but no credit) is $20.60. The entire exam takes approximately 3 hours to complete. The test will be given in the Sullivan Technology Center (STC), room 218.

PLEASE NOTE: IC³ exam code should be purchased at least 48 hours prior to scheduled exam to allow time for testing code to be emailed to purchaser. Please see below for additional information.
