Two Receive Promotions

Henderson Community College is pleased to announce the promotion of two employees within its admissions department.

Cary Conley, who currently serves as admissions counselor, has been promoted to Director of Advising and Assessment. He will play a key role in helping to develop the college s new Start Center, which will co-locateman with glasses and tie all student services to one location in an effort to better serve students through the admissions and advising process. These services will be located on the second floor of the Sullivan Technology Center.

This new position and the whole concept of a start center is the right way to go, Conley said. I m looking forward to working with student services and academic advising to make the new center run smoothly.

Conley earned his B.A. in earth science and secondary education from Morehead State and his Master s in secondary education from the University of Southern Indiana.

Dr. Kris Williams, HCC President, has also reassigned Rebecca Emerson to a one-year interim position as Assistant Dean of Special Projects. Emerson has been working the last six years under a Title III grant to initiate pilot programs aimed at improved advising.

Over the past year Emerson has been instrumental in making sure the college moves forward on its Transformation Initiatives, grants and other new projects.

Emerson is a licensed professional clinical counselor with a Master s degree in community ministries and marriage and a second Master s degree in family counseling --from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

I think my background as a counselor assists me in finding a problem and navigating creative solutions to address the problem, Emerson said. I know how to listen, and to hear the undertones of a conversation.
