Three Faculty, Staff Members Accept Awards
Three Henderson Community College faculty and staff were were recognized for their leadership and significant achievements in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System at an awards ceremony held Monday, May 14, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville.
Selena Miller, Scott Taylor and Dianne Siewert accepted their awards last week during the New Horizons Conference. Miller, an assistant 1, was recognized for her attention to detail and her kindness in doing what it takes to further the mission of the college.
Taylor, an instructional assistant, ABE, is a relatively new employee who was quick to take an active role in a number of areas. Taylor has helped to market the college s G.P.S. initiative and also reinstated the venerable tradition of the student newspaper, The Hill. In addition, Taylor also uses innovative techniques to help students learn and apply math skills in real ways.
Siewert was recognized for her willingness to embrace technology and innovative learning strategies in the classroom. She incorporates tools and strategies such as Youtube videos, Turning Point clickers and even songs to ensure her students are retaining knowledge. Siewert also helps to incorporate career readiness and community service into her curriculum by providing students with opportunities for service learning. A shining example is her support of a group of nursing students in a summer alternate clinical experience with the Henderson County Diabetes Kids Camp, which fosters hands-on learning for the students while also helping them better understand this disease and providing a fun retreat for campers.
