HCC Students win at State ConventionLaura Winstead, agriculture professor at HCC, led a group of HCC students to the state convention of The Kentucky State Young Farmer Association (KY YFA) held in Carrolton, KY, February 21-24. Attending from HCC were Bobby Householder, Kathryn Leslie, Tyler Chapman, and Tyler Buckman. All are enrolled in the Agricultural Technology Program at HCC and are members of the HCC Collegiate Young Farmer Chapter and of the Kentucky State Young Farmer Association.
HCC students, Kathryn Leslie and Bobby Householder were awarded scholarships; Kathryn received a $1,000 scholarship from Schaeffer Oil and Bobby was awarded a $500 scholarship from KY YFA. Additionally, Bobby was selected as the state winner in the agricultural mechanics knowledge contest.
Approximately 175 participants attended the convention and selected from seminars covering topics such as The Current State of the Federal Farm Bill and Growing Industrial Hemp in Kentucky.
Participants also enjoyed tours of The Beef Connection and Carrollton Greenhouse Tobacco Supplies and a stop at Point Park (where the Kentucky and Ohio Rivers meet).
