HCC implements "Lean Enterprise" initiativeHenderson Community College has embarked on an initiative to examine internal practices and processes to reduce costs and become a leaner and greener campus, led by the HCC Blue Ribbon Committee on Lean Enterprise.
Although lean philosophy was first developed for application in manufacturing, it has also been used in government, healthcare and higher education. The Blue Ribbon Committee s goal is to minimize waste, effort, and cost while improving quality and efficiency. The four areas of focus include; Maintenance and Operations, Technology, Student Services, and Academic Processes.
The committee is currently examining the cost benefits of leasing vs. selling a piece of property owned by the college, but is also examining print and copy usage, their recycling process, and lower-cost textbooks to name a few.
The committee is comprised of individuals from all areas of the college and are open to input from students, faculty, staff, and the community at large. If you have questions or suggestions, please contact Brian McMurtry at 270-831-9615 or Sharon Caudill at 270-831-9692.
