HCC Honors Distinguished AlumniEach year, HCC honors a past student with its Distinguished Alumni Award. This year s winner, Mr. Keith Williams, attended HCC from Fall 1968 through Fall 1970. The award will be presented at the 2012 December Graduation, Friday, December 7, at 7 p.m. in the McCormick Hall, Henderson Fine Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.
During his time at HCC, Mr. Williams was an avid amateur photographer who was scouted by then-Gleaner publisher Walt Dear to shoot photos for the newspaper. Mr. Williams showed special talent at photography, particularly feature pictures.
After five years with The Gleaner, Mr. Williams became a member of The Courier-Journal photo staff. He retired from the Courier-Journal in 2007. While a photojournalist for the Courier-Journal, he was part of the staff that twice won journalism s most highly regarded award, the Pulitzer Prize. The Courier-Journal staff won for Feature Photography for coverage of school desegregation in Jefferson County (Feature Photography, 1976) and for coverage and follow-up of the Carrollton bus crash (General Reporting, 1989).
