HENDERSON, Ky. – On Tuesday, August 18, the Henderson Community College (HCC) HCC FAME program hosted a brief Signing Day ceremony to recognize the six students who have been accepted for the 2020 HCC FAME cohort. This event, in addition to other orientation activities, including a socially-distanced campus tour, was open only to the new students and their sponsors.
The HCC FAME program, a partnership between the HCC FAME Chapter of KY FAME (Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education) and HCC, is a work-and-learn program that allows high school graduates (or equivalent) who have been selected by local employers to participate in the program’s 40 hour per week, apprenticeship-style format. The students will attend college two days a week while working three days a week at the sponsoring company.
Sponsors for the 2020 cohort of HCC FAME include Audubon Metals, Big Rivers Electric, Gibbs Die Casting, new chapter member Groves Electrical Services, Pioneer Plastics, and Shamrock Technologies.
Mike Jussila, HCC FAME Chapter President and Plant Manager at Shamrock Technologies, said, “We are pleased to welcome the new cohort of HCC FAME students to the program in 2020. Despite the ongoing pandemic, our local manufacturers remain strong and are committed to building a better workforce in Henderson. We look forward to following the progress of these students.”
Dr. Jason Warren, President/CEO of HCC, added, “Being able to begin our fourth HCC FAME cohort is exciting, and giving these students a healthy and safe start is our priority. We are grateful to the 2020 sponsor companies and are proud to honor their vision to educate and train highly-skilled maintenance technicians.”
