ORGANIZATIONAL AWARDS HENDERSON ASSOCIATION OF NURSING STUDENTS Academic Excellence Award Jordan Edlin Hello this is Dr. Carole Mattingly and I am very honored to have the opportunity to award the Henderson Association of Nursing Students Academic Excellence Award to Jordan Edlin. While maintaining a high GPA in a rigorous program, Jordan found time to volunteer to help others. Among her volunteer activities, she volunteered at Hospice House in order to provide support and comfort to terminally ill patients. She is active in her church donating her time and talents. She opened a booth and provided education and support to local middle school students who were experiencing difficulty with anxiety. Last semester she spent time with a second semester nursing student providing mentoring and support. Congratulations Jordan Edlin. HANS Leadership Award Liz Blake Hello this is Dr. Carole Mattingly. I am very honored to recognize the recipient of the Henderson Association of Nursing Students Leadership Award, Liz Blake. Liz is the first person I think of when I consider Henderson Association of Nursing Students. She served in a variety of leadership roles including Vice President and most currently President. In addition to serving in the leadership roles and organizing and presenting meetings, Liz is consistently encouraging to all members of the organization. Leadership is not the only thing that Liz brings to the organization. She is also a very active volunteer. A few of her volunteer activities include sorting medical supplies at Supplies Overseas to send to underserved countries. She participated in Build a Bed and built beds for local children who do not currently have beds. Last semester she served as a mentor to a nursing student in a lower level providing support and encouragement. Congratulations Liz Blake. STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION Paul Daly, President Willis Blue III, Vice President Evan Chaney, Treasurer As a faculty sponsor of the Student Government Association, it is my honor to recognize our Student Government Officers. The HCC Student Government Officers are elected by their peers to represent and serve as the voice of HCC students. This year, outstanding officers demonstrated leadership, commitment and dedication. They worked to support the students who entrusted them with this task. President, Paul Daly The president of the SGA Paul Daly served as voting member of the HCC Board of Directors. He helped plan student and HCC advocacy events and has tirelessly planned Earth Day events. While they may not have been held, we do appreciate his planning. Thank you Paul. Paul is a conscientious leader, supporting and carefully listening to those around him. He makes sure everyone gets to be heard. In addition to his service as president, Paul is also involved in the Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa. Yet, he was always willing to serve in SGA and we could rely on him to achieve his goals. Vice President, Willis Blue III (Willie Blue) Our Vice President Willie Blue often kept us thinking and offered new, fresh perspectives and unique insights. He worked to help us all better understand the student experience. We appreciate Willies service as Vice President and especially want to recognize that he is a passionate supporter of HCC and a very creative thinker. Treasurer/Secretary, Evan Chaney Finally, it is my honor to recognize Evan Chaney who served as a Secretary of the SGA. In addition to being fully employed and also participating in the Honors Program, Evan committed himself to keeping the SGA organized and on task. But, also, it was his sharp wit and his openness that kept the meetings running so well in addition to those prepared and shared agendas. Evan is a quick thinker and I know we all appreciated his involvement. As always, I will miss these officers next year but I cant wait to see what the next year brings for them and I look forward to hearing about their future success. Thank you to our officers for the SGA.
