All KCTCS Academic Team Award: Each year each of the 16 colleges in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System identifies two students, one from the general education/transfer area and one from the occupational/program area to recognize. These students must have earned over 45 credit hours, with a minimum GPA of 3.5, and be on track to graduate. We have many excellent students at Henderson Community College who we have seen grow both academically and socially. It is my pleasure to recognize two worthy recipients who are both excellent students, wonderful role models, and genuinely good people. This year HCCs general education nominee to the All KCTCS Academic Team student is Hadley Ellen Alexander. Hadley is graduating this semester with an associate in science and plans to pursue a bachelors degree in Computer Science. Like most of our students Hadley has worked while attending HCC. She is in the HCC Honors Program where she has not only excelled academically but has been an active participant in many Honors program activities as well as represented students on several college and KCTCS committees including HCCs College Appeals Board and the KCTCS Committee on Intellectual Property. Notably Hadley took the lead in planning and hosting this years Earth Day event. One of Hadleys supporters describes her as a model student. She is humble yet confident, good natured but also serious, and really, really, smart. This year HCCs technical program nominee is Shelby Pendergraft. Shelby is in the nursing program and is on track to graduate with her AAS in nursing. Shelby is described by her nominator as a role model and great example for her classmates. She not only excels academically, but she exhibits attributes of humility, initiative, and leadership, qualities that are important in any field but especially in nursing. Her nominator states that Shelby often takes it upon herself to assist instructors to set up or clean up after lab activities. Small actions, especially when no one is looking and in absence of praise, are a testament to Shelbys character and service. Outside of college, Shelby is very involved in her church, helps at a local food bank and serves as a YoungLife group leader. Her nominator wrote that it is a pleasure to be a part of Shelbys nursing education. She is the best candidate for this award because of her constant leadership by example-academic excellence, as well as service and character.
