The Adult Education Program at Henderson Community College is one of only 29 county programs in the state to be ranked in the excellence category by Kentucky Adult Education.
"We are very excited by this honor," said Pam Wilson, the college's dean of workforce solutions. "Our staff works very hard to meet the needs of our student and it is nice to recieve this recognition."
Kentucky Adut Education is the state agency that funds adult education. It is part of the Council on Post-Secondary Education, Wilson said.
The honor means that the local Adult Education Program at HCC wil receive $36,327, most of which will be used on teaching materials.
"A portion of the money goes to the staff for professional development," Wilson said. "We can't hire anybody or give anybody a raise, but it's nice to have the money."
Programs in the excellence category met or exceeded enrollment and aceademic performance goals.
In order to qualify, a county must have achieved 90 percent or greater of the county's enrollment goal and 53 percent or greater of those enroled must have achieved education level completions (academic performance).
Henderson's Adult Education Program achieved 96 person of its enrollment goal and 58 percent of its academic performance goals.
The Kentucky Aduct Education performance and accountability model consists of three categories: Excellence, proficient and needs improvement.
