A year from now Henderson Community College will probably have two new entrances and a parking lot much closer to the Fine Arts Center, state Sen. Dorsey Ridley announced today.
“It will almost double the parking facility there at the Fine Arts Center,” Ridley said in speaking to the Henderson Lions Club. “It will be user friendly in that it will actually get those parking cars up close to the facility.”
The existing parking lot on the hill next to the administration building “will be lowered somewhere in the four-foot range,” he said. That dirt will be moved to fill in the low area between the Fine Arts Center and U.S. 60 and create another parking lot.
“We’re going to do away with that curvy street” that runs from the center to the current parking lot.
The current lot, which has 126 spaces, will continue to be used for parking, along with the new lot closer to the building. The total parking lots created will be 241, nearly doubling current capacity.
There will also be two new entrances to the college. One will be midway between the two current entrances onto U.S. 60. It will allow buses to pull up to the Fine Arts Center, unload passengers, and easily get back onto U.S. 60. “They’ll have a constant flow of traffic,” Ridley said.
The other new entrance will be a new road behind the William L. Sullivan Technology Center and provide direct access to Old Corydon Road.
