Local residents who are interested in pursuing bachelor's or master's degrees in counseling and human development will be able to do so at Henderson Community College starting in August.
Lindsey Wilson College now has a joint cooperative program with HCC that will offer classes at the local campus on Fridays and Saturdays. Students will enroll in two Lindsey Wilson classes at a time for three weekends as a whole.
"We are extremely excited to be working with Henderson Community College to bring this opportunity to Henderson County and the surrounding area," said John Rigney, dean of the Lindsey Wilson School of Professional Counseling.
"One of our program's strengths is that it (gives) working students a way to maintain a busy schedule while still having time to attend class."
Rigney added that the program is ideal for busy and ambitious working adults. If students enroll in the program full-time, they should be able to earn a bachelor's degree in a little more than a year and a master's degree in just two years.
Lindsey Wilson's program at HCC will also help address a critical health need in the region.
"There is a well-documented shortage of qualified mental health professionals in the Henderson County area, and we look forward to working with HCC to address this need," Rigney said.
In addition to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Lindsey Wilson's graduate program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, which is the accreditation arm of the American Counseling Association.
"It's a very thorough and exhaustive examination of your program," Rigney said. "When you achieve CACREP accreditation, it's a clear signal to the profession that your program is among the best in the nation."
