Family Literacy Day set for Saturday at fine arts center
Those wanting their children to read more may want to attend Family Literacy Day on Saturday at the fine arts center on the campus of Henderson Community College.
The event -- which is free -- is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for all area families with children, from babies to those in the fifth grade. Each family will receive a literacy packet with free books and tips on how to increase literacy in the home.
Among those participating with booths at Family Literacy Day will be the Imagination Library, PBS, Imagination Station, Head Start, DARE and Even Start.
There will be family entertainment including a magician from 10:15 to 11 a.m. and the Praise Dance Team from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. Guest readers are also scheduled throughout the day including Patty Sellers, Anthony Black, Sheila Farris, Jo Swanson, Sandy Watkins, Dr. David Watkins, Wayne Hart, Clifford and the Cat in the Hat. There will also be hands-on activities. A light snack will be provided.
