Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education

Do you have the patience, creativity, and enthusiasm to work with young children?

The Early Childhood Education Program, which is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), educates individuals to provide quality care and education for young children. Students learn the fundamental principles of caring for and challenging young children, including developmental ages and stages, health and safety, curriculum planning, assessment, and family involvement.

Where are the jobs?

Graduates of the Early Childhood Education Program are accepted into positions such as Infant-Toddler Teacher, Preschool Teacher, Afterschool Program Teacher, Public School Teacher Aide, Recreation Center Assistant, Family Child Care Provider, Child Care Resource and Referral Technician, Developmental Intervention Assistant, Associate Family Support Specialist, and Youth Services Worker. Employment opportunities are available in Head Start, public schools, HANDS Program, First Steps, Healthy Start, Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies, recreation centers, hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, and public and private child care programs.

Student Responsibilities

Students are responsible for transportation to the various observation sites, professional liability insurance, criminal background check, and TB clearance.
