Accelerating Opportunity Kentucky

Accelerating Opportunity Kentucky (AOKY) is a cutting-edge educational initiative that offers faster pathways to college credentials for underprepared learners. AOKY seeks to ensure that students have the skills they need to compete for jobs that pay a family-sustaining wage. Our accelerated pathways have been created to assist students in attaining high-demand credentials or certificates in less than a year. Additionally, each accelerated pathway can serve as a “first step” towards pursuit of an Associate’s degree or additional certifications.

Accelerated Pathway Options:

#1    Welding Technology - up to 25 credit hours

#2    Allied Health - up to 13 credit hours

For more detailed information about the Accelerated Pathways, please review the AO Fact Sheet.

Benefits of Pursuing an Accelerated Pathway

Students participating in the accelerated pathways will benefits from comprehensive student support services, or what we like to call "wrap around" student support, aimed at maximizing student success through one-on-one coaching each step of the pathway and beyond--from admission to completion, and through transition into the workforce or into a program for further study

       Credentials & Certificates

Students can earn credentials & certificates quickly in their selected pathways while having their own support team, composed of instructors, adult education staff, and personal coaches. The aim of the AOKY program is to help students attain fast, stackable credentials that will get them employed quickly.  The "stackable" component means that credentials in a given pathway build on one another, with one credential leading into another related credential attainment.

Team Teaching

Students will have a technical instructor and an adult education instructor working together in their lecture courses, offering basic skills instruction and support in the classroom, in real-time.  The team teaching format allows for individual needs and basic skills reinforcement to be addressed immediately, when students need the support, in the context of the technical classroom.

              Support Labs

Students will receive additional assistance with study skills, math, reading and writing in small group lab or seminar environments. Support labs are most often offered before and/or after class, and may serve as an opportunity for students to seek assistance in preparation of upcoming tasks or as a chance to debrief and clarify issues that may have arisen in lecture.

Success & Career Coaches

Students will benefit from personalized attention and individualized student success plans! The Success Coach will assist students with program enrollment and provide on-going support through one-on-one coaching for academic and personal success. The Career Coach will assist with employability skills, resume writing, interviewing, job-hunting and referrals.
