ADN Program

The Associate Degree Nursing program prepares graduates to provide and manage client care and to become members in the discipline of Nursing. Graduates are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Graduates from the Henderson Community College Nursing Program consistently score at or above the norm on the national licensure examination.

The Associate Degree Nursing curriculum is organized around a clearly defined conceptual framework which combines general education and nursing education. The nursing education courses correlate classroom and clinical instruction in a variety of community agencies.

The Nursing Program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission  (NLNAC, 3343 Peachtree Rd, NE. Suite 500  Atlanta, GA  30326) . Phone number 1-404-975-5000, www.nlnac.org). The Program also has full approval from the Kentucky Board of Nursing and the College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges.

Due to a community shortage of registered nurses and with the financial support of the two local hospitals in Owensboro, an Extension of the Henderson Community College Nursing Program was opened at Owensboro Community College in 1991. The Extension separated from Henderson in 1998.

PN Program

The Practical Nursing program prepares individuals to practice within the legal scope of practical nursing under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. Use of the nursing process at the practical nursing level is toward the maintenance of health and prevention of illness, the observation and nursing care of persons experiencing changes in their health and the evaluation of patient health practices.

Classroom instruction in theory and basic nursing skills is provided on campus. Under the guidance of program faculty, students gain valuable experience in the care of clients of all ages in a variety of health care settings.

Graduates are awarded a Diploma upon completion of the curriculum and are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses. (The Kentucky Board of Nursing investigates all prior
legal convictions to determine if graduates will be allowed to take NCLEX-PN.)

Graduates from the PN program may qualify to articulate into the Associate Degree Nursing program by receiving credit for the first nine hour nursing course. Additional articulation credit is given upon completion of the LPN
to ADN Bridge course allowing graduates to enter final year of the ADN
program.
